That may soon change. Microsoft is testing an AI-powered audio translation feature in its Edge browser.

This feature can translate spoken words in a video into another language in real time, replacing the original audio with a translated version. Right now it works with a few languages, including English, Spanish, and Korean, but it shows how AI could make global content far more accessible.

Here's how it works:

Once enabled in Edge's settings, a small floating bar appears on supported sites, like YouTube. When you start a video in another language, Edge automatically generates a translated audio track, muting the original. The result is that you can hear the video in your chosen language almost instantly.

There are some limitations. The feature requires a modern, powerful device with at least 12 GB of memory, and accuracy can vary, with occasional phrasing errors or extra voices. But even as a preview, it represents significant progress.

The potential impact for businesses is huge. International training sessions, partner presentations, and industry insights in other languages could become immediately usable without waiting for subtitles or professional translations.
